Vol. 132 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Schemes.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in order to absorb the unemployed and to benefit tourist traffic, he will give early sanction to the detailed scheme submitted to his Department by the Wexford County Council for the improvement of main and county roads.

The proposals submitted by the Wexford County Council for the improvement of county roads during the current year with the aid of Road Fund grants were approved on the 6th instant with the exception of one scheme for which an alternative specification has been requested.

Nine of the 13 schemes which the council proposed for the improvement of main roads with the aid of the grant made available from the Road Fund have, subject to the amendment of one specification, been approved on the 16th instant. Alternative proposals, involving more substantial improvement work, were requested in lieu of the remaining four schemes, as the works proposed for execution in these cases were more appropriate to the council's ordinary road works programme.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has considered an application made by Kerry County Council for a grant to make a road into a bog at Bawnmore, Listowel, where they are cutting turf; and, if so, if he will now state if his Department proposes to allocate a grant for this purpose.

I have received an application from the county council for a grant for the making of a road into this bog, and I have asked the council to furnish further information to enable me to consider the application.
