asked the Minister for Justice if the consideration promised to the Garda Síochána representative bodies' claim for revision of pay has yet been completed and, if so, if he will state at what date the Gardaí may expect an increase in their pay and allowances.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Garda Pay Revision.
Mr. Byrne
Mr. Boland
The pay of the Garda Síochána was increase on the 1st January, 1952. No further increase in pay is at present contemplated
Mr. Byrne
Is the Minister aware that since they got the last increase in January, 1952, the Budget has been introduced and has increased their cost of living for foodstuffs, etc., by at least 20 per cent.? Will he say how they are to overtake that increase in the cost of living if he does not give them an increase?
Hear, hear!
