Vol. 134 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Radio Éireann Announcements.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if a regulation exists whereby certain persons may have their marriage and official engagements announced over Radio Éireann, and, if so, at what cost and what types of persons may be permitted to use the radio for such purposes.

The reply to the first part of the question is in the negative; the remainder does not arise.

In view of the fact that the Minister abused his position as Minister for Posts and Telegraphs in this connection and presented to the broadcasting authorities a script announcing his own engagement over the radio, does the Minister consider that——

That is an entirely separate question. Question No. 128.

It is not. I have asked the Minister if a regulation exists whereby certain persons may have their marriage and official engagements announced over Radio Éireann; and, if so, at what cost, and what types of persons may be permitted to use the radio for such purposes. The Minister, in his reply, has stated that there is not. Under what regulation, then, did the Minister insist on having his own official engagement announced over Radio Éireann, against the advice of the broadcasting authorities?

That is irrelevant.

It is not, Sir. I beg to raise this matter on the Adjournment, with your permission.
