Vol. 134 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Islands' Telephone Service.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state the cost to the State of supplying a 24-hour telephone service to all islands off the Donegal coast.

Two of the islands off the coast of Donegal already have a 24-hour telephone service. The capital cost of providing a 24-hour telephone service for the remainder by means of radio-telephone equipment would be approximately £750 per island plus the cost of landlines on the mainland to the nearest exchange. This latter cost could not be estimated with any degree of reliability without undertaking a survey.
