Vol. 134 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Electricity Supply Board's Employee's Salary.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that an employee of the Electricity Supply Board has been refused salary and bonus based on the old cost-of-living index figure, because the Electricity Supply Board contend that the new figure is inapplicable, and no old figure is now published; and, if so, if he will arrange to have his case investigated, with a view to making payment to him of the proper salary.

I have no function in relation to the salaries paid to officials of the Electricity Supply Board.

Is the Minister aware that this is a somewhat unusual case, in that the salary and bonus to which this employee is entitled are based on the old cost-of-living index figure which is not now published and that the Electricity Supply Board contend that, because it is not published, they are not in a position to base his salary and bonus on it? This particular applicant is, I think, the only person in that position in the board's employment.

It is open to the person concerned to take his case to the General Employees Tribunal, which has been established by legislation.

Will the General Employees Tribunal hear a case of this sort?

I understand that it is in actual process of hearing the case.
