Vol. 134 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Beer and Spirits.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state what reduction the public may expect in the price of beer and spirits in view of the substantial reduction in the price of this year's barley crop.

The increase in barley prices last year, which was much greater than the reduction this year, did not lead to an increase in the price of Irish whiskey to the public, and the reduction in the price of this year's barley will not involve any reduction in the price of whiskey to the public. The prices of other types of spirits are not controlled. While the price of beer is at present under examination, it must be emphasised that it is affected by other manufacturing costs as well as barley.
