Vol. 134 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Military Service Pensions.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state how many applications for military service pensions by Old I.R.A. men in County Sligo are still awaiting the decision of the Referee, and whether he can give any indication when these cases will be decided.

The number of applications for military service pensions by Old I.R.A. men in County Sligo which are still awaiting the decision of the Referee or the board of assessors is 199.

It is not possible at present to indicate when those cases will be decided, in view of the nature and extent of the investigations necessary in each case to satisfy the requirements of the Acts and having regard to the total number of claims from other areas which are still on hands for consideration by the Referee or board of assessors.

andMr. Ormonde asked the Minister for Defence if he will state (a) the number of pensions granted under the Military Service Pensions Acts during the following periods: (i) 1924 to 1934; (ii) 1934 to 1949; and (iii) 1949 to 1952; (b) the number of persons at present in receipt of special allowances under the Army Pensions Acts, and (c) the number of persons at present in receipt of disability pensions under the Army Pensions Act.

The statistics requested by the Deputies are as follows:—

The number of pensions granted under the Military Service Pensions Acts up to 31st October last were:—

(1)From 1924 to 1934

3,600

(2)From 1934 to 1949

12,011

(3)From 1949 to 1952
