Vol. 135 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - State Game Hatcheries.

asked the Minister for Justice if he will consider the establishment of State hatcheries for the restocking of game and thereby encourage tourists to come to our country for the shooting season.

The answer is in the negative.

Under the existing law the Department of Justice is concerned only with the protection of game and the establishment of State hatcheries for restocking is no part of its functions.

Surely if they are concerned with the protection of game it is part of their duty to see that the game is there to be protected? With a little bit of co-operation with the Minister for Lands it might be possible to establish game hatcheries and give the Minister something to do to protect the game.
