Vol. 136 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - New Bridges.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the present position with regard to the erection of a new bridge at Wexford.

The Wexford County Council have not yet submitted all the documents required for examination and approval prior to the invitation of tenders for the carrying out of the work.

asked the Minister for Local Government if his Department has yet sanctioned the application for a bridge order made by the Cork County Council, to erect a bridge over the river Feale at Ahane, County Kerry.

An application by the Cork County Council for a bridge order under Part IV of the Local Government Act, 1946, in connection with the erection of the bridge referred to by the Deputy is at present under examination in my Department.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is in a position to state when the proposed new bridge across the Blackwater, at Dronsacane, Millstreet, County Cork, will be erected.

The provision of the bridge referred to by the Deputy is primarily a matter for the Cork County Council. No detailed proposals in the matter have been submitted by the county council to my Department.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has received proposals from the Kildare County Council for the removal of the dangerous bridge known as the Limerick bridge, on the Naas-New-bridge road; and if he will state how the matter now stands.

A proposal to replace the bridge referred to by the Deputy has been approved in principle by my Department. Further consideration of the matter must await the outcome of the application, which I understand has been made by C.I.E. to the Transport Tribunal, for an order releasing them from the obligation to keep open the Herberstown branch of the Grand Canal for traffic.
