It is estimated that £1,000,000 would have purchased the same quantum of (a) essential goods (including rent), at retail prices, in November, 1952, as £441,000 in August, 1938, (b) goods at wholesale prices, in December, 1952, as £328,000 in October, 1938 and (c) imported goods, in November, 1952, as £301,000 in August, 1938.
