asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state theestimated weekly average of persons employed in occupations insurable under the Unemployment Insurance Acts for the years 1951 and 1952.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Insurable Occupations.
Estimates of the type the Deputy requires have for years past been made by an inter-departmental committee. The principal item used in their calculation is information as to the sale of each denomination of insurance stamp at post offices. That information is obtained from returns compiled and certified by the Department of Posts and Telegraphs. These returns do not reach my Department for some months after the period to which they relate. There are no such returns in respect of the quarter ended the 31st December, 1952. The estimate which the Deputy requires for 1952 is therefore not yet available. The estimate made by the inter-departmental committee for 1951 is 369,700.
