Vol. 136 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reclamation of Sligo Lands.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that a number of farmers whose lands, situated along the banks of the Owenmore River, County Sligo, are constantly subject to flooding, made application on the initiation of the land reclamation scheme to have reclamation work carried out on their farms; that no such work has yet been undertaken in the area; and if, in view of the national necessity for increased production, he will state what steps he will now take to have the necessary reclamation work carried out on these lands.

Mr. Walsh

I am aware that a considerable area of land is affected byflooding from the Owenmore River and that a comprehensive scheme of land reclamation work cannot be undertaken on the holdings adjoining the Owenmore owing to the condition of the river. The improvement of the river does not, however, fall within the scope of the land project.
