Vol. 137 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair of County Cork Bog Road.

asked the Minister for Finance if a proposal has been submitted to his Department for the repair of an accommodation and bog road in the townland of Crostera West, Glengarriff, leading to Barley Lake; and if, in view of the large numbers cutting turf in the bogs served by the road in question, he will make a grant available immediately for its repair.

This road was last repaired in 1947-48, and an inspection in 1951 revealed that some further repairs in the nature of maintenance were desirable, butthat they were by no means essential for the removal of turf from the bog served. The proportionate share of employment schemes funds for the area were, therefore, allocated in the intervening years, 1951-52 and 1952-53, to other more urgent works.

I might say that since the last grant was spent on the road in 1947-48 no representations appear to have been made as to the necessity for further repairs; but in view of the Deputy's question I shall now arrange for an up-to-date report on the condition of the road.
