Vol. 137 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Application for Reconstruction Grant.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that an application was made for a reconstruction grant by a person in County Waterford almost a year ago; and, if so, if he will state the cause of the long delay in giving sanction and when it is hoped to have the inspection carried out in view of repeated representations to have an inspection carried out.

A grant of £40 was originally allocated in this case in May, 1947, but the applicant did not thenproceed with the work, owing to financial considerations. An increased grant of £80 was allocated in 1948, but the applicant again decided not to carry out the work. A third application for a grant under the Housing (Amendment) Act, 1952, was received in September, 1952. Following further inspection and investigation, it was ascertained that the applicant could not contribute the necessary amount towards the cost of the minimum amount of work that would warrant the allocation of a grant. The facts of the case have been brought to the notice of the housing authority with a view to the possibility of providing alternative accommodation under the Labourers Acts.
