Vol. 137 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dungarvan Housing Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has received from the Waterford county manager a submission concerning a resolution passed by the Dungarvan Urban District Council concerning a proposal to allocate 1/- in the £ on the rates to subsidise the rents of the new housing scheme in Dungarvan known as Dr. Caseyville housing scheme; and, if so, if he will indicate what steps he intends taking in the matter.

I received a submission from the Waterford county manager requesting a decision as to whether the council's resolution of 1st September, 1952, concerning a proposal to allocate 1/- in the £ on the rates to reduce the rents of the Dr. Caseyville housing scheme contravened sub-section (5) (a) of Section 29 of the County Management Act, 1940. The manager was informed that a resolution under Section 29 of the County Management Act, 1940, in this matter may not require the manager to reduce the rents save in specific cases and in accordance with the approved rents scheme.
