Vol. 137 No. 5

Question on Adjournment.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I should like toask the Minister for Local Government if something could not be done to alleviate the conditions of a number of widows in Cork City——

Is this a matter that the Deputy wishes to raise on the Adjournment?

If the Minister could give us some enlightenment now perhaps it would not be necessary to raise it on the Adjournment.

The Deputy should have given me some notice of this matter.

Very well, I shall raise it on the Adjournment.

What does the Deputy wish to raise?

There are a number of widows of ex-servicemen in Cork City who are being told that there is no fear of their being evicted but I read in the Sunday papers that they are under threat of eviction if they do not buy out their houses by April 30th.

Ask Deputy Costello about that.

I do not see at the moment that it is the responsibility of any Minister.

I wish to ask the Minister for Local Government.

It would be no harm if the Deputy had given me notice.

I shall give notice in the course of the day.

Why not take it up with Deputy Costello? He made the bargain.

I shall let the Deputy know later if the matter can be raised on the Adjournment.
