Vol. 138 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ophthalmic Opticians.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that there are persons practising as ophthalmic opticians who have no qualifications or special training and that there are qualified opticians not being recognised by his Department; and, if so, if he will state what steps he proposes to take to remedy this state of affairs.

On the first part of this question, I would draw the Deputy's attention to my reply to Deputy Doyle's question of 30th April last. As regards the second part, I am not aware of any refusal to recognise a qualified optician either under schemes with which the Department of Health is concerned or under the treatment benefits scheme of the Department of Social Welfare. If the Deputy can giveme particulars of any case he may have in mind, I will have inquiries made into it.
