Vol. 138 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rebate of Road Tax.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state why the rebate of road tax granted on motor-cars assembled in Eire has been refused to owners for Austin A70 cars and if he will state whether other makes have been given the rebate whose component parts, such as uphelstery, glass work, etc., are similar to that of the A70.

The road tax concession has been refused to the owners of Austin A70 and other makes of cars where the conditions laid down for qualifying for the concession have not been complied with. These conditions relate to the degree of assembly carried out in this country and to the use of certain Irish-made materials. This decision applies to other makes of cars in addition to the Austin, and in no case where the conditions laid down have not been met has the concession been granted.
