Vol. 138 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bunclody Mail Delivery.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that the first delivery of mail to Bunclody and the surrounding area does not commence until 1 p.m; and if so, if he will make arrangements for a much earlier delivery.

The present delivery at Bunclody is a combined night and day mail one. Correspondence posted in time for general night mail despatches throughout Ireland and correspondence received by night air service from Great Britain secures delivery next day. The delivery also includes correspondence posted at the G.P.O., Dublin, up to 4.45 a.m. and correspondence received from Great Britain by night packet at Dún Laoghaire.

If an early morning delivery were to be provided instead approximately 50 per cent. of the entire mail matter at present delivered at midday would not be delivered until the following morning.

I am, however, having the matter further examined.
