Vol. 139 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pedestrian Crossings.

Mr. A. Byrne

asked the Minister for Justice if he will issue a statement defining the rights of pedestrians crossing roadways at points where studs or specially marked crossings are laid for their guidance and issue a warning that traffic will be compelled to recognise these rights.

Mr. Boland

By-Law No. 9 (1) of the General Bye-Laws for the Control of Traffic, 1937, provides that, at a road junction, the driver of any vehicle shall yield the right of way to any pedestrian who is crossing the roadway at a pedestrian crossing. I am aware that this by-law has not been generally observed in Dublin, and it is one of the matters to which the recently-established motor-cycle squad will pay attention.
