Vol. 142 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchase of Mussels.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state whether a monopoly for the purchase of mussels collected in the Mornington, Drogheda area, is vested in any one individual or whether the fishermen have a free market for the disposal of these goods; and, further, if he will make a statement on the matter.

The marketing of mussels collected at Mornington is not controlled in any way by my Department. Fishermen are free to make their own arrangements for disposal of their takings, subject, of course, to compliancewith existing regulations made by the Minister for Health under the Health Act, 1947.

I wish to give notice that with your permission I intend to raise the subject matter of Question No. 58 on the Adjournment.

I will communicate with the Deputy in the course of the afternoon.
