asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state for the years 1950-51, 1952-53 and 1953-54 in respect of each local authority (a) the amount paid to such authority by way of grant under the Local Authorities (Works) Act and (b) the average number of persons employed in respect of each such authority.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Local Authorities (Works) Act.
As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report.

1. Grant allocations are given, that is, the full amount available for expenditure in the year. The full amount of the grant is generally not paid in the year in which it is allocated.
2. The allocations given in the above table are exclusive of a special allocation to each county council in each year for works ancillary to the land project. The amount of this grant in 1950-51 was £1,000 in each case (£3,000 in the case of Cork County Council), and in 1952-53 and 1953-54, £500 (£1,500 to Cork County Council).
3. Employment particulars, which are furnished by the local authorities, are not yet available for the full year 1953-54.
4. The particulars of employment given above represent in the case of county councils the average on a 12-monthly basis, and in the case of other authorities the average employment on the basis of the number of months during which work was in progress.
