Vol. 147 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Midwives' Expenses.

asked the Minister for Health whether he has received proposals from the Waterford Board of Public Assistance to grant midwives in the board's employment a sum of £50 per annum as compensation for car hire expenses incurred by them in the discharge of their duties, and whether he has yet come to a decision in the matter.

There is a proposal in my Department from the Waterford Board of Public Assistance to allow up to £50 in lieu of travelling expenses to each midwife employed by the board.

The future conditions governing the provision of midwifery services are still under consideration and until a decision is arrived at, I am not in a position to sanction the payment of travelling expenses as proposed.
