Vol. 147 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin-Derry Train Service.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware of the unsatisfactory train service between Dublin, Strabane and Derry, which is in striking contrast to the efficient and fast service between Dublin and Belfast, and that this unsatisfactory service may eventually have an adverse effect on the County Donegal tourist traffic, and if, in view of the importance of that industry to County Donegal, and incidentally, to the G.N.R. Board, he will request the board to effect an early improvement in the service in question.

Any question of providing improved train services between Dublin, Strabane and Derry would be one for consideration by the G.N.R. Board to whom any representations in the matter should be addressed.

Is the Minister not in a position to make representations to the board on the lines set out in the question?

The Act setting up the board prevents me from interfering in the day-to-day administration of the board. The question of running trains and the speed at which they run is day-to-day administration and any representations should be addressed to the board.
