asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether he has received from the Galway Harbour Commissioners the draft of a proposed Harbour Works Order, and, if so, when; further, whether he has approved the draft, and, if not, when a decision in the matter is likely to be given.

A draft of a proposed Harbour Works Order was received from the Galway Harbour Commissioners on 6th May, 1954, but the Order cannot be made until the precise scope of the works to be carried out has been determined. The harbour commissioners propose to seek tenders for the deepening of the commercial dock on two alternative bases. They were informed, on 24th May, that it had been decided to defer further consideration of their application for a Harbour Works Order pending receipt of the two sets of tenders. The relevant contract documents were submitted by the harbour commissioners on 26th August and are being examined departmentally. This examination will shortly be completed and the harbour commissioners will then be in a position to seek tenders.
