Vol. 147 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Service Medals.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will introduce proposals for legislation to extend the final date for applying for service medals so that persons, who have applied for such medals since August, 1954, may qualify for special allowances under the Army Pensions Acts.

I have no proposals for such legislation under consideration at the present time.

Does the Minister not agree that an injustice is being done to men who have applied since August last and who are equally deserving as those who have already been awarded special allowances?

If it were extended to next August there would be fellows who would be in a bad way after that August also.

I am examining the whole matter relating to pensions but it has been extended time after time.

You can extend it again.

Is it recommended?
