Vol. 147 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Trim Hospital Extension.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state the cause of the delay in carrying out the extension to the county maternity home, Trim, County Meath, and if, in view of the overcrowding and the inconvenience caused to patients over many years, he will take steps to have the work carried out as speedily as possible.

The reconstruction scheme for this hospital was recently discussed by officers of my Department with officers of the local authority and the architect and a revised scheme which would provide the patients' accommodation in a single storey extension to the present building was agreed to. This scheme has the advantage that it should be possible to proceed with it without closing down the hospital. Now that the solution has been agreed I am sure that the detailed planning and execution of the work will proceed speedily.
