asked the Minister for Social Welfare if be will state the extra cost, due allowance being made for staff savings which would result, of granting old age pensions without regard to the financial standing of the applicants.

The extra cost of old age pensions which would result from disregarding the means of all applicants, and after making allowance for savings in administrative costs, is estimated to be about £2,290,000 per annum.
