asked the Minister for Local Government if he will set up a representative body to advise on measures which might be taken to remedy the present serious position caused by traffic congestion in Dublin City.

I do not think that any useful purpose would be served by setting up such a body.
The preparation of any proposals of an engineering nature which may be deemed desirable to relieve traffic congestion in Dublin is a matter for the Dublin Corporation which itself is a representative body. Such works, of course, would be costly and take a considerable time to carry out. As regards other steps I understand that there is already close liaison between the corporation and the Commissioner of the Garda Síochána, who is responsible for the control of traffic, and that the corporation themselves also have a traffic sub-committee.
