Vol. 148 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Limerick Housing.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that houses are not provided in Limerick City for families of five children and more, and, if so, if he will take steps to ensure that houses are provided for such families in future housing schemes in that area as flats are unsuitable and unacceptable.

I am not so aware. It is a matter for each housing authority to decide what types and sizes of dwellings should be provided by them to satisfy the needs of working-class families in their district. The attention of all housing authorities has already been drawn to the desirability of providing in their housing operations a diversity of accommodation to meet the varying requirements of persons to be rehoused. I am satisfied that Limerick Corporation has made reasonable provision in this respect to cater for large families.
