Vol. 150 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - I.R.A. Widows and Dependents.

asked the Minister for Defence whether he is aware of the necessity to make provision for the widows and dependents of I.R.A. men who were in receipt of disability pensions, or special allowances, and, if so, if he will introduce the necessary proposals for legislation at an early date.

Provision exists in the Army Pensions Acts for the payment of allowances to the widows and children of Old I.R.A. men who at the date of death were in receipt, under these Acts, of disability pensions with married pensions, and who died solely from the wound or disease in respect of which the pensions were granted. No provision of a similar nature exists in relation to persons who were in receipt of special allowances.

No proposals for legislation to alter this position are contemplated.
