Vol. 153 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sligo Bog Development.

asked the Minister for Lands whether the Land Commission are considering a scheme for the development of the Gowlan bogs, Cloonkeelaun, Knox Gore estate, and if so, when the scheme is likely to be put into operation.

The Land Commission have no plans for the immediate development of the unallotted turbary in the townland of Cloonkeelaun but, if the demand warrants it, the preparation of a scheme will be undertaken as soon as circumstances permit.

Is it not true to say that local officers were supposed to send up a scheme for the development of this bog?

My information is that they did.

My information is that 608 acres of this bog have been allotted. I presume the Deputy is referring to the portion that is still un allotted. There does not seem to be any great pressure for the allotment of this portion.

Has there been a dispute between Bord na Móna and the Land Commission about this?

I am not aware of that.

Would the Minister say if the plan for the generating station on this bog is going ahead?

That is a separate question. If the Deputy will give me notice I will answer it.
