Vol. 153 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Swinford Parish Agent.

asked the Minister for Agriculture when it is proposed to appoint a parish agent in the Swinford area.

Parish agents are being assigned under the parish plan to areas where I am satisfied there is a genuine local demand for such appointments. The appointments already made were in response to applications from local groups such as Muintir na Tíre guilds, Macra na Feirme branches and co-operative societies. An application of this kind has not been received from the Swinford area.

Is the Minister aware that there is an active branch of the Young Farmers in the area, known as the Moyvalley Farmers and, if they put in an application, will he receive it sympathetically?

I certainly will but the Deputy will bear in mind that it must be considered sympathetically in relation to many other applications which are already there.
