Vol. 153 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Housing—Need for Lighting and Roads.

andMcGrath asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the hardships endured by persons living in newly-built housing estates in the Cork area as a result of roads being left in a rough condition and public lighting not being installed, and, if so, if he will take steps to ensure that these necessary works are put in hands immediately.

I have no knowledge of the conditions mentioned by the Deputies, but if they will give me details of the housing schemes concerned, I will have the matter investigated.

May I mention that the housing schemes to which I refer are small schemes, parts of which were erected by private builders and sold to people purchasing their own houses through local authority grants and loans, and otherwise? The conditions under which they live and have to approach their houses, particularly in winter time, are appalling; yet, they are paying rates for facilities they never enjoy.

If the Deputy will let me have particulars of the schemes, I will have that matter investigated.
