Vol. 156 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Emigrants' Unemployment Benefits.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare whether he is aware that, when unemployed emigrants return to this country, unemployment benefit is granted to them in respect of a small fraction only of their contributions to the British Ministry of Labour and National Insurance, and, if so, if he will take steps to have the existing reciprocal agreement with Great Britain amended with a view to having better terms provided.

The revision of the existing reciprocal arrangements with Great Britain is at present the subject of negotiations between the British authorities and my Department. One of the matters under consideration is the agreement in relation to unemployment benefit. It is hoped that the negotiations taking place will soon be completed.
