Vol. 156 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Letterkenny Telephone Kiosk.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he is aware that grave dissatisfaction exists in Letterkenny because of the action of his Department in placing a telephone kiosk where the people do not want it, and, if so, if he will now take steps to have the wishes of the towns people carried out.

I am aware only of a difference of view between the local urban district council and my Department concerning the siting of the kiosk in question. The council suggested a site towards one end of the main street; the Department, after fully considering this, selected a site on the same street but in a more central position where it is considered that the kiosk will be more extensively used. As my Department is responsible for ensuring as far as possible that the kiosk will pay its way, it must have the final decision in this matter. I do not propose to remove the kiosk from the site selected.
