Vol. 160 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Phosphatic Manures.

Major de Valera

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether, through his intervention or the intervention of the Government, the price which Irish farmers are at present paying for phosphatic manures will be reduced during the present financial year.

By reason of the removal of the Customs duty on superphosphate with effect as on and from 13th November, 1956, imported superphosphate is now available at world prices, whereas the duty previously charged would have added 20 per cent. to these prices. Also by reason of the arrangements made by the Government, home-produced superphosphate will now be available at world prices.

This year?

Major de Valera

That does not answer the question I asked.
