Vol. 161 No. 9

Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - Rotunda Garden Buildings.

asked the Minister for Health when it is proposed to require the Board of Governors of the Rotunda Hospital to remove the temporary buildings which now occupy the site, acquired before World War II, for a garden of remembrance to commemorate those who died in the struggle for independence over the period 1916-1921; and what has been done by his Department to give effect to the undertakings given by previous Governments that the occupation of the site by the Rotunda Hospital authorities would be of brief duration.

The question of making this site available at an early date for the purpose for which it was acquired is receiving my immediate consideration.

In view of the long delay in handling over this site, will the Minister give an undertaking that he will see that the promise of the governors to hand over this site will be implemented in the very near future?

I should like to be able to give an affirmative answer to the Deputy, but I think I ought to give the matter further consideration before I commit myself.
