Vol. 161 No. 9

Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - Charges in County Hospitals and District Hospitals.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state in relation to (a) county hospitals, and (b) district hospitals, the maximum charges permitted to be made by health authorities under the Paying Patients Regulations in the year preceding the enactment of the Health Act, 1953.

The Paying Patients Regulations which were in force in the year preceding the enactment of the Health Act, 1953, for both county and district hospitals provided generally for a daily charge varying between 15/–and 6/– for paying patients in county hospitals and between 12/– and 6/– for paying patients in district hospitals. Extra charges were imposed for X-ray examinations. These Regulations were approved during the years 1944-1947 and the question of reviewing the charges was deferred pending the implementation of the Health Act. This matter is now being discussed with the various health authorities.
