The net quantity of tobacco on which the excise duty on tobacco stocks imposed by Section 9 (1) of the Finance Act, 1956, was paid was 673,719 lbs.
Would the Minister have handy the amount of the duty imposed?

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the amount of duty to be raised by the excise duty of 3s. 2d. on stocks of tobacco held at 5 p.m. on 8th May, 1957.
The terms of the relevant Financial Resolution allow licensed tobacco manufacturers until the 15th May, 1957, to make returns to the Revenue Commissioners of the quantities of tobacco held by them at 5 p.m. on the 8th May. Pending the receipt and verification of these returns, the gross yield of the special excise duty of 3s. 2d. per lb. will not be known.
