Vol. 161 No. 9

Ceisteanna-Questions. Oral Answers. - Non-Tax Revenue.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state the nature and amount of the substantial nonrecurrent receipt for non-tax revenue to which he referred in his Budget statement.

The receipt in question arises from the agreement of the Government of the Federal Republic of Germany to pay compensation to the Government of Ireland in respect of loss of life, personal injuries, damage to property, and incidental expenses occasioned by bombs dropped from German aircraft at Dublin and Arklow on the nights of 31st May and 1st June, 1941.

Negotiations with the German Government regarding the payment of agreed compensation in a lump sum instead of by annual instalments have been in progress for some time. Until final agreement is reached it would not be proper for me to disclose any figures. We shall have to take account of the wishes of the German Government as regards the timing of any announcement of the terms.
