Vol. 161 No. 13

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tuberculosis Mortality.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state the number of childhood deaths from tuberculosis in (a) 1947, and (b) 1955 in the City of Dublin, and in the Republic, respectively.

The number of childhood (i.e. under 15 years of age) deaths in the Dublin County Borough area, from all forms of tuberculosis, was 138 in 1947 and six in 1955.

The number of childhood (i.e. under 15 years of age) deaths in the State, from all forms of tuberculosis, was 456 in 1947 and 68 in 1955.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state the total number of deaths from tuberculosis of persons over 15 years of age in each of the years 1947 and 1955 in (a) Dublin City, and (b) the rest of the country, and the percentage decrease in each case.

The number of deaths of persons aged 15 years and over in the Dublin County Borough area from all forms of tuberculosis was 708 in 1947 and 154 in 1955, the percentage decrease being 78 per cent.

The number of deaths of persons aged 15 years and over in the State, exclusive of the Dublin County Borough area, from all forms of tuberculosis was 2,536 in 1947 and 667 in 1955, the percentage decrease being 74 per cent.

In regard to those questions, would the Minister be in a position to say if there is any segregation of those figures of cases of infection due to bovine tuberculosis as distinct from cases of infection from other varieties of tuberculosis?

In the answer which I have given there is not, but, of course, I was not asked for that information.

I wonder is it available?

If the Deputy would put down a question I would be glad to deal with it.
