Vol. 161 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Withdrawals from Road Fund.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the amounts taken out of the Road Fund for Budget purposes in each of the years 1924 to 1957, inclusive.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, with your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, to circulate it with the Official Report.

Following is the statement:—

NOTES:

(a) Strictly speaking, the appropriation made in 1931/32 was not a transfer from the Road Fund. Under the provisions of the Unemployment Relief Act, 1931, the amount appropriated (£250,000) did not actually pass through the Road Fund. Instead of the total proceeds of motor taxation being transferred from the Central Fund to the Road Fund the sum in question was credited to a separate supply account.

(b) In 1953/54 and 1954/55 the normal income of the Road Fund was supplemented by allocations of £1,000,000 and £1,500,000 respectively from the National Development Fund.
