asked the Minister for External Affairs if, in view of the acute national economic emergency, he will consider disposing of our Embassy buildings in London and Paris and their replacement by more modest and suitable headquarters.

The Embassies in London and Paris are very suitable for their purpose. They provide not only living and reception accomodation for the Ambassadors but also office accommodation for their staffs.

In my view it would be unwise and uneconomic to dispose of them.

Is the Minister aware that the number employed in the Embassy in Paris is 12? Does he consider it is desirable to have such a huge, luxury establishment for the comfort of 12 employees, apart altogether from——

I do not agree with the Deputy's description of the premises.
