Vol. 162 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of Reactors to Bovine Tuberculosis.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that reactors to bovine tuberculosis from Six County areas are being offered for sale in the State; and what steps he proposes to take to end this practice.

Mr. Moylan

There is a normal two-way traffic of cattle over the Border. Since bovine tuberculosis is a problem common to both sides, there is little doubt that some reactors to the tuberculin test must be included in these movements.

I intend very shortly to introduce a Bill to deal with the whole question of bovine tuberculosis eradication. In this, power will be sought to prohibit the movement of cattle which have not passed the tuberculin test into areas undergoing clearance, or which have been cleared, of bovine tuberculosis.
