Written Answers. - Army Civilian Employees.

asked the Minister for defence if he will state in relation to sub-head C of Vote 56 the number (a) employed in 1956-57 and (b) to be empolyed in 1957-58 in each barracks under the headings set out in page 314 of the Estimates.

It is not feasible from records available to give the information asked for by the Deputy in respect of each barracks. The information has, however, been complied in respect of each of the three commands and the Curragh Training Camp area and is set out in the tabular statement herewith.

STATEMENT showing in respect of each of the three commands and the Curragh Camp area the number of civilians employed with the Defence Forces in 1956-57 and the number to be employed in 1957-58.

NOTE: The figures given in respect of employees with the Corps of Engineers represent in each other the average weekly number of employees over the whole of the financial year concerned as he number employed varies from time to time according to the volume of work of hands.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state in respect of the Curragh Command area the number of civilian employees (a) who died, and (b) who relinquished their employment through ill health or other causes, excluding retirements on age grounds, during each of the last four financial years.

The numbers of civilian employees coming under the headings (a) and (b) in the Deputy's question are as follows:—

These figures represent not only tradesmen and loabourers employed with the Corps of Enginners, but also such classes as cooks, maids and wardsmaids employed with the Army Medical Corps and typists.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the number of civilian employees in the Curragh Command area on 1st April, 1957, who reach 70 years age (a) in the current financial year, and (b) in each of the next three financial years.

The number of civilian employees in the Curragh Training Camp area who are due to reach 70 years of age in the current financial year is seven.

The number due to reach 70 years of age in each of the next three financial years is as follows:—
