Vol. 165 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - North Tipperary School.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state what steps have been taken regarding the proposed new school to be built at Kilruane, Nenagh, County Tpperary; how long the plans have been before his Department; and the reason for the delay in dealing with them.

Mr. Lynch

A suitable site has been offered by the reverend manager for a new national school at Kilruane, County Tipperary, and sketch plans of the building were furnished by the Commissioners of Public Works to my Department in September, 1956. Following the receipt of the plans it was necessary to make certain arrangements, with which the reverend manager and my Department were concerned, before a grant towards the cost of the school could be sanctioned. These arrangements were completed and the grant was sanctioned by my Department in May, 1957. There was no avoidable delay on the part of my Department in dealing with the case.

It is a matter for the Commissioners of Public Works to make arrangements to enable tenders for the new school to be invited. The commissioners will not, however, be in a position to proceed in the matter until the reverend manager has had a well sunk on the site with a view to obtaining a supply of water for the sanitation system at the new school. I understand that the well sinking is in progress.
