Vol. 165 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Connolly Clubs.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he is aware that there is a possibility that Irish emigrants, particularly in the London area, are being inveigled into joining the Connolly clubs, and, if so, if he will bring the dangers of joining those clubs to the notice of Irish nationals in England.

I am aware that the organisation in London masquerading under the name of the Connolly Association endeavours to recruit Irish immigrants as members. The nature and purpose of this organisation is now well known, however, and the great majority of Irish men and women resident in England refuse to have anything to do with it. One of the best antidotes to the activities of the so-called Connolly clubs is the Irish organisations which have for their purpose the reunification of Ireland and the promotion of Irish culture and pastimes, and my Department does everything it can to encourage them.
