Vol. 165 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sea-Angling International Contest.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware that the number of Frenchmen allowed to take part in the sea angling international contest next July has been limited to 40; and if, in view of the importance of this event, for our tourist trade, and for the publicity which it will afford to our fishing amenities, he will take steps to ensure that no limit is placed on the number from overseas who may wish to take part.

The Deputy is presumably referring to the sea-angling contest proposed to be held at Westport this year. I am not aware that any limitation has been placed on the number of entrants from France or any other country for this competition. What is at issue I understand is the provision of suitable accommodation in the town of Westport. I have no functions in this matter which is one for the local organisation sponsoring the competition acting if necessary under the guidance of Bord Fáilte.
