Grants have not been allocated from the Department's Vote to local Authorities for schemes under the Local Authorities (Works) Act in the present financial year and accordingly returns of employment have not been furnished by local authorities. Returns furnished in respect of the year 1956-57 relate to employment at the end of the month. The total number employed on the 28th February, 1957, was 4,246.
